A Pure-Play Technology<=>Original Content

But it earned its profits from advertising, a classic trait of a media company. [순수 기술기업?]:1)번역자여, 정말이지 이렇게 번역하면 어찌 합니까? “순수 기술기업”이라니요? 2)이걸 다시 영문으로 되옮겨 봐요. 'a pure technology firm'이라고 되지 않나요? 왜 이렇게 되었을까요? 그 원인은 당신이 ‘a pure-play technology'라고 원전에 씌어져 있는데도 불구하고 ’-play'를 쏙 빼고 번역해 버렸기 때문입니다.

We purely remained on WebSphere, Java, Microsoft... ”라고 하기도 하고 바로 같은 항목의 아래로 가면 “...We were different. Our customers ask us to write an application layer on top of their existing technology....”라고 하고 있기도 하네요. 2)이제 아시겠어요? “순수 유희 기술=>응용기술”이지요. 예컨대, 한국의 이찬진씨가 Microsoft Windows에다가 한글컴퓨터를 만들어낸 기술이 바로 ’a pure-play technology'죠.

[comments]::1)Why lie? Why lie to the readers, and, above all, to yourself? Do you say that the word 'pure' is not synonymous with the word 'original'? Can't you see the relationship between "a pure-play technology" and "original content"?


2)The translator has got it wrong. Utterly wrong in that he has misconstrued the phrase at issue "a pure-play technology firm" to mean "a pure technology firm." He has, in effect, ignored or disregarded the hyphenated version, which has ended up meaning the opposite.


3)Why don't you ask Google? It's a real irony that the translator of The Google Story has got a lot of his job all screwed up partly by his ignorance and partly by his neglect. If you only ask Google the answer is up for your grabs.


4)"A pure-play technology" is a technology, of course, but it is not "original," which means that the technology has been established on the foundation of and been made to exist by a certain original technology. In short, a pure-play technology deserves the designation of an application discipline. And in the above paragraph, the phrase "a pure-play technology" is the opposite of the phrase "original content."
