Why Do They Act Like That?

Why do they act like that? I keep wondering myself. That might be a mystery one hundred times more recondite than the Sphinx of Egypt itself. Will that be a vanity of the intellectual? Might it be the superfluity of self-consciousness? Or must that be the sure sign of human duplicity?

What might be the cause that the elites of the Korean upper crust, especially the knowledgeable people from the mass media and the academia, take on the tendency of anti-Americanism? Have they been rejected by the U.S. Immigration Office? Entirely not. On the contrary, they have been the beneficiaries of the United States and its people all through their careers.

Some have been to the United States to study. Some, or most of them have made their offsprings U,S. citizens and let them live there. The bizarre fact is that a very large portion of Korean society maintains the "two-house families.": One house in Seoul and other metropolis and the other house in major cities of the prestigious states of America.

Almost all the ordinary people of Korea consider the United States and its people benefactors for us and our posteriors to remember for centuries to come and our esteemed liberators who have unleashed us from the yoke of Japanese colonialism and the invasion of Communists. We concede that there can be anti-Americanists in our society, ideologically and physically. But I think that even Solomon or Platon or some historical pundits will not be able to give you an answer to the bizarre question that the most beneficiaries, who had been showered by innumerable privileges from the United States and hospitalities from the American people and whose sons and daughters still live and study there, turn on America, and further pronounce their position very vociferously, from time to time.
